I am a leaseholder of a flat in a victorian converted house and the freeholder is asking us all to pay for the costs of having a new fire alarm system fitted.Who is responsible for the payment, the leaseholders or the freeholder?
As other posters have said, It will depend on the terms of your lease. Recently I installed a fire alarm and emergency lighting system in a Victorian property which had been converted some years ago into to six flats. The freeholder had been ordered to do so by the local council. Most of the cost was paid out of the "building maintenance fund", which each leaseholder pays into, and the remainder was shared equally by each leaseholder. So in this case it was the leaseholders and not the freeholder who bore the cost.
Hope this helps.
Who is responsible for the costs of installing a fire alarm system in thecommunal areas of a victorian convert?
How do I email the FIRE CHIEF of my city, for important suggestion?
Not having time to wait around at any fire station_if they were to hear me out on this, which I don’t know_and not been able to spend time on phone, is there a way for me to contact the FIRE CHIEF on my city through the internet; through my email?
Well, it depends on your city and fire chief. Check your local government website and see if they have it listed.
Keep in mind though, that e-mails tend to be "low priority" and there’s a good chance you’ll never get a response. you’d be better off going to the fire house and leaving a physical message for him (a written note with your contact information, hours of availability and what you want to discuss).
What to do about smoke detector in apartment building which is wired into the fire alarm?
I can’t cook without fear that the alarm will go off and the fire department will show up. I can’t remove the smoke detector. It is not battery operated and it is hardwired into the emergency alarm system. Can I cover it up with something?
You can cover the detector temporarily with a plastic shower cap. Just remember to remove the cap once you are finished cooking or you will defeat the purpose of the fire alarm system.
Fire safety considerations in the design stage of a building.?
Hi I have an essay question and need some help on what various factors surveyors and service engineers need to consider, at the design stage for ensuring life safety in the event of a fire in a modern 10 storey commercial building with a floor area of 2000m2?
Generally speaking, Fire resistant doors, Not sure of commercial requirements, But residential require 30 min fire resistant doors, And as it is commercial it would of course need emergency lighting, wired to a seperate circuit.
All corridors are not blocked, Fire extinguishers placed at adequate points, And all locations noted and ensure that staff know locations, As well as an emergency meeting point outside of the location.
All fire escapes are structually sound, They will not collapse in a short length of time. All I can think of for now.
How do fire engines store the water they use to put out fires?
Fire engines surely use an insane amount of water to put out big house fires etc. Always wondered where they store all that water that comes out of the hose? Cheers
MATT MAN THEY HAVE A BIG STORAGE TANK UNDER THE BELLY OF THE TRUCK AND A PUMP SECTION WITH HOOK UPS ON THE SIDE, BUT IF YOU WILL NOTICE A FIRE TRUCK HAS A WHOLE BUNCH OF HOSE ON THE BACK STACKED UP IN A NEAT AND ORDERLY FASHION,WIT THE END HANGNG DOWN, THAT IS TO HOOK UP TO A FIRE HYDRANT FOR EXTRA WATER ,, IF THERE IS A BIG FIRE THE TRUCK IS DISPATCHED AND ON THE WAY THE FIGURE OUT WHERE THE NEAREST HYDRANT IS , AND AUTOMATICLLY STOP AND JUMP OFF AND HOOK UP TO THE HYDRANT AND DRIVE OFF PULLING THE HOSE OFF THE BACK OF THE TRUCK AS THEY GO, IT GIVES THEM THE SUPPLY OF WATER THEY NEED, IF ITS A REALLY BAD FIRE THEY MAY GO DIRECTLY THERE AND USE THE TANKON THE TRUCK TO START RIGHT AWAY AND CALL FOR BACK UP THAT DOES THE PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED PROCESS, OF HOOKING UP, YOU CAN GO TO A FIRE STATION AND ASK IF THEY HAVE A TOUR DAY OR IF YOUCOULD LOOK AT THEM OUR FIRE STATIN DOES IT ALL THE TIME AND THEY WILL LET YOUGET IN AND SEE THE INSDE SHOW YOU WHERE THEY LIVE AND HOW IT ALL WORKS ITS A GREAT PROFESSION AND INTERESITNG ,,GOOD LUCK BUDDY, TAKE CARE,
Can a fire chief in Ohio be a voting member of the village council that the department covers?
I was wanting to know if in Ohio there was anything that was a law that stated that a fire chief can’t be a voting member of a village that the department covers. I was told that they couldn’t but I can’t find anything saying that but don’t know where to look also.
D
There should be no conflict. In certain situations the chief should recuse themselves from issues related to fire and safety, those would be at times that bring him into personal conflict of interest. Like fire Dept budget and personnel issues.

How to write a letter to join volunteer fire department?
I would like to know how to write a letter on how to join a volunteer fire department. Should the letter be long or short? What things should I include in the letter?
Hi there,
I have been a volunteer firefighter for a few years now. I don’t know how it works in your country but over here volunteers makeup around 95% of the total firefighters and are very respected.
All you have to do is tell them a bit about why you want to be a firefighter. For example for me it was because I wanted to give back to the community, get involved and do something good for the people I live around. It doesn’t have to be long. Just be genuine and they will respect you.
Hope this helps!
What should i do if my landlord makes bogus 911 call for fire department to come to my apartment?
(New York City) My landlord made bogus 911 call to get into my apartment that there is a leakage in my apartment, the fire department came and saw no leakage. Is that considered harassment? He is just trying to get back at us because we are moving out. If no one was home who would pay for the damage if the fire department broke the door? After all there was no leakage. Can he be responsible for unnecessary 911 call?
If he made it look to the fire fighters as if he had a real concern, he’s in the clear for making the call.
You might know it was harassment, but there’s no way you’re going to make anyone who matters pay attention to this issue.
The landlord would be responsible for fixing the door if he made the call and firefighters felt it was necessary to break it.
What to do if he does it again? If you’re home, let them in. You’re moving away soon anyway, so don’t let him clutter your mind with pointless anger over his stupid stuff.
What beach in Miami allows bon fires at night?
On Facebook, the popular kids that I know sometimes have bon fires in some beach. What is a beach in the Miami area that allows bon fires at night? Is there one in Key Biscayne? Thanks!
All the beaches in Miami-Dade are municipal or county parks. They all require a fire permit which you have to apply for in advance. That doesn’t mean people don’t try to get away with it, but if someone spots a fire, they’ll likely call it in. The fire dep’t (Key Biscayne has at least one fire station I know of) is only a phone call away & they’ll bring the police with them. So you call them first & see if you can get a permit.
If the fire chief of your local fire dept kept blaming his predecessor, how long would he last?
Suppose your last chief was slow to respond to fires, or he sent engines and men to the neighboring community to help fight their fires with your tax money. So you have him replaced.
His replacement has never been in a fire engine, but gets the job. When he’s slow to respond to fires he blames the former chief. When he sends even MORE men and engines to help the neighboring town, he blames the former chief because "everyone does it".
How long do you keep your faith in the new chief?
Yea! Doesn’t that "BURN" you up??? Geez, I wouldn’t want this guy as a Chief of my local fire Department….Perhaps DOG CATCHER???
