What causes most fires in vacant occupancies?

I have a friend that moved 300 miles from me about a year ago and there was a fire that started at 1:00 AM in his vacant apartment. When the news reports about this fire they say they will investigate the cause of the fire. My friend can’t understand how a fire starts with nobody living in the apartment. I said it could be something electrical. What is the most likely cause for fires where houses or apartments are empty at the time?

squatters
