How can you protect a house against bush fires as bad as the recent Victorian Black Saturday Fires?

I am doing a project on the recent Victorian Black Saturday Bush fires and I am making a model to show what you can do to protect a house. What materials can you put on a house or make a house out of to protect it against the flames and radiant heat of the fires?

I recently asked a question about the paints and sprays you can put on timber to stop the heat and flames, though all answers showed that it will not help against fires that horrific.

unless the home is built out of concrete nothing will stop a hot fire that gets close to your home. Heat will shatter windows and the radiant heat will also catch exposed wood on fire. They do make gable vents sub floor vent that are fire resistant. If you have a contained supply of water and your own electricity you could set up a fire sprinkler system to cover the exterior. But how and when do you activate the system?
