Protection: Legs and wings, if so equipped

Only a ABC fire extinguisher in the cabin (or halon in some aircraft). No detection other than looking for smoke and flames...

For an engine fire, the firewall is made of stainless steel to delay the flames from getting into the passenger compartment.

In the passenger compartment, you may have a portable fire extinguisher similar to those in home use. You also have circuit breakers or fuses that will prevent an overloaded circuit from overheating, preventing a fire. Turning off the master switch also removes electricity from a component that is experiencing an electrical fire…

When you see smoke/flames coming from under the engine cowling, you have a fire. You get out (if on the ground) and grab your fire extinguisher. If you are in the air.....land ASAP and then run like hell.
