ok first of all im from ohio ive been reading NFPA 10 (national fire protection agency) standards for portable extinguishers. first i would ask the local fire department what you need to do. if you don't want to do that NFPA 10 says that it recommends two A type fire extinguishers. i personally recommend 2-3 2.5 pound A-B-C type fire extinguishers. put one under the sink one in the garage and one in the bedroom.
References :
Purchase the proper fire extinguisher.

Take the receipt and the notice you received from the fire dept back to the fire dept. to have them acknowledge in writing that you have cured the problem.

Issue resolved.
