I run a small business (21 full time Empys). Each year the local F.D. comes through our office to do a fire inspection. Bottom line is they check the dates on the extinguishers. The standard SOP is that 3-4 firemen show up for something that should take 3-4 minutes and be gone….in reality they show up, flirt with several females in the office, spend 1/2 hr B.S.ing then leave. I happen to be in the office the other day and they they told me I needed new extinguishers (not refilled & tested). I say sure…I take care of that right away. He then hands me a business card…he say’s they are the best ….strange I thought, the company is 70 miles away. A few minutes later as they were leaving I shook his hand (to get his name). I them check out the company and just what I thought…the owners last name is the same as the firemens name…a weird name with "wich" on the end. I called the company….sure enough the fireman is the son!
As a businessman…I find this unethical

Charles….exactly, that’s how I take this. It makes me afraid that if I don’t buy from his fmily business…I may have problems with the re-inspection in 2 weeks. It’s amazing how these people can’t even understand why this is wrong and very unethical to promote your families business within a governmental role. I refuse to do business with that company even if they gave them to me for free. I will cover myself and write a letter to the editor. I thought abot contacting the cheif…but who knows who he is or related to.
yes it can be seen like that.but he the way he said it .its thin a veiled threat. but nothing direct. cover ur bases get their estimate. along with several others. then talk to ur da dont complain to the fire dept it will only warn him

Which part of it? You asked a question then changed it totally, Are you talking about fire inspection, in itself, because i am a firewoman and i know for a fact, it saves lives.
OR
are you talking about the fireman giving you the card of his father? In that case, no i dont think so, you dont HAVE to buy from him…he was trying to help you out. And not all firefighters act that way, you shouldn’t stereotype them into one big group, i have a lot of firefighters in my family and also hang around them all the time, and i have no never seen them hit on a woman or flirt with them, unnecessarily
But you may want to be a little more clear on your question..and not ask two totally different questions!
