Fire Officer Training – Canceling Assistance Prior to Arrival?

Posted by admin on May 28th, 2010 and filed under fire training | No Comments »

This is the expanded dispatch and fire ground radio transmissions from a reported chimney fire that occurred in the Long Ridge Fire District in Stamford, Connecticut. Automatic assistance from Stamford Fire Rescue and the Turn of River Fire Department was also dispatched, but cancelled by a Long Ridge Assistant Fire Chief prior to his arrival or arrival of any Long Ridge units. Once the first Long Ridge Engine arrived on scene, they quickly learned that they had more than a chimney fire. An excellent learning tool for all Fire Officers about what never to do when responding.

what to expect as a volunteer fire fighter? What training, what will you respond to?

Posted by admin on May 12th, 2010 and filed under fire training | 1 Comment »

Once/if you get accepted what training do you get as a volunteer fire fighter? Who pays for it? Whats the usual minimum hours a week? What will you respond to? (will it be the same calls as normal fire fighters or just basic ones? What can you be expected to see and deal with? Do yo have to be certified? who pays for that? anything else you can think of to add would be great to get an ideal of the job, atmpshere, and what to expect. I am going to do ride along with ems and vfd.

You get ashes for dinner.

Is is true that most cops never fire their guns except for training purposes…?

Posted by admin on May 10th, 2010 and filed under fire training | 5 Comments »

I have read that most regular cops have never fired their guns in an incident and that the only time they shoot them is for training and practice.

Yes, that is true. I have a friend who has been a cop for over 20 years, and has never fired his gun while on duty. The gun is an absolute last resort, only when there is an imminent hazard.
