What does it cost to call the fire department?

Posted by admin on November 30th, 2011 and filed under fire department | 2 Comments »

For a project I am doing I need to find out how much it would cost to call the fire department if it’s a non emergency. Like if you were putting on a performance with Fire in it what would it cost to tell the fire department that the fire was part of the show and not an emergency! I really need to know this fast! Thanks

For non-emergencies in the Uk you would pay the normal call cost to call the Fire Service. This is because it is NOT an emergency. For any call which may be classed as an emergency then the calls in UK are free, using the code 999 or 112. It is 911 in North America. Same rules apply to all of the emergency services. The emergency calls are routed directly through to the control rooms so that they can be dealt with as a matter of urgency. All non-urgent calls have to be separate so that the system is always kept free for the emerncy calls.

What is the average yearly budget for a volunteer fire department?

I’m doing a research paper on Volunteer Fire Department budget cuts. I need help finding sources for yearly budgets.

Then you are going to have to contact lots of different volunteer fire departments and get their budgets, because every fire department is different.

How do I become a member of a Maryland Volunteer Fire Department?

Posted by admin on August 25th, 2011 and filed under fire department | 2 Comments »

I wanted to know how I could become a member of a MAryland Volunteer Fire Department, but to study EMT-B only!

There is no Maryland Volunteer Fire Department. There are communities in Maryland that have individual volunteer fire departments. You have to contact the fire department in your community and find out if they involve volunteers at all, how you become a volunteer, etc. Every fire station is different in terms of how new volunteers are trained and inducted. It’s up to you to find out the rules for your local fire department.

How to write a letter to join volunteer fire department?

I would like to know how to write a letter on how to join a volunteer fire department. Should the letter be long or short? What things should I include in the letter?

Hi there,

I have been a volunteer firefighter for a few years now. I don’t know how it works in your country but over here volunteers makeup around 95% of the total firefighters and are very respected.
All you have to do is tell them a bit about why you want to be a firefighter. For example for me it was because I wanted to give back to the community, get involved and do something good for the people I live around. It doesn’t have to be long. Just be genuine and they will respect you.
Hope this helps!

What should i do if my landlord makes bogus 911 call for fire department to come to my apartment?

Posted by admin on July 25th, 2011 and filed under fire department | 4 Comments »

(New York City) My landlord made bogus 911 call to get into my apartment that there is a leakage in my apartment, the fire department came and saw no leakage. Is that considered harassment? He is just trying to get back at us because we are moving out. If no one was home who would pay for the damage if the fire department broke the door? After all there was no leakage. Can he be responsible for unnecessary 911 call?

If he made it look to the fire fighters as if he had a real concern, he’s in the clear for making the call.

You might know it was harassment, but there’s no way you’re going to make anyone who matters pay attention to this issue.

The landlord would be responsible for fixing the door if he made the call and firefighters felt it was necessary to break it.

What to do if he does it again? If you’re home, let them in. You’re moving away soon anyway, so don’t let him clutter your mind with pointless anger over his stupid stuff.

what is a typical fire department emt work schedule?

Posted by admin on April 24th, 2011 and filed under fire department | 2 Comments »

I am interested in becoming an emt for the fire department, but I am wondering, what is typical work schedule like? I do know that firefighters go 24 on and 48 off, or two 24 hour days a week, but how does an emt schedule compare to this? I am in southern california if it makes a difference.

24/48 is the typical schedule for FDs.

In Southern California, EMTs are also firefighters with the Fire Department. Actually most are Paramedic/Firefighters. They should have their Paramedic cert by the time they apply to the FD. In northern CA, San Francisco has a few EMTs who are with their EMS department who are not FFs.
There are usually 100s of applicants for any open position.

Should a person with Hepatitis C be allowed to be on a volunteer fire department and assist in emergencies?

Posted by admin on April 22nd, 2011 and filed under fire department | 1 Comment »

Our volunteer fire department allowed a man to join, then elected him as Assistant Fire Chief. He has Hepatitis C. Should a person with Hepatitis C be allowed to be on a volunteer fire department and assist in emergencies?

Yes it is perfectly fine and legal for healthcare workers, including doctors who are infected with HIV and Hepatitis C to work. There are some restrictions – these apply to what are called "exposure prone procedures" where they may be a higher possibility that the doctor/healthcare worker may infect a patient. Particularly these are surgical disciplines where for example the operator may not be able to see his or her hands inside a patient as with surgery. Otherwise there is no restriction apart from the general surveillance that occurs with doctors etc with any chronic illness.

Is it possible to do community service at a fire department?

Posted by admin on April 20th, 2011 and filed under fire department | 2 Comments »

I have to do 40 hours of community service as a graduation requirement. And i remember that theres a fire department a block away, and was wondering if i could do it there.

Only the local fire department can tell you. Here in Canby, Oregon, you couldn’t — the fire department has a sign that says "volunteers needed", but most people who say they want to volunteer are never called back, and the volunteers have to commit to be firefighters — they offer no other way to help as a volunteer.

Here is a huge number of things you can do as a volunteer
