Fire Alarm at West Virginia University Dormitory

Posted by admin on June 9th, 2010 and filed under fire alarm | 16 Comments »

I spent a week, July 28-Aug. 1, 2008, at West Virginia University in Morgantown working with teachers on the SATELLITES education program. I stayed in Stalnaker dormitory with the teachers and got a rude awakening at 2 am the first night when the fire alarms went off. There were a total of seven fire alarms at night during the week due to a malfunction of the system. I took this video during one of the fire alarms. The sound was ear splitting. The fire department had to come out each time. What is in the fire chief’s black bag that he carried with him each time he came to the dorm? That is the big question. We never found out.

What will happen if I am caught pulling the fire alarm at school?

Posted by admin on June 8th, 2010 and filed under fire alarm | 13 Comments »

on the last day of school I am gunna pull the fire alarm. What would the consequences be if I got found out? Even the the chances of being found out are incredibly low. I live in the UK if that makes a difference.

Dont try and talk me out of it, live life to the full.
It is my last day of school, ever!

at my school they charge you how much it costs for the fire brigade to come out – it costs a LOT! i’m talking over £1000, the last person at my school to do it had to arrange for their family to pay it off a bit each week for years as they couldn’t afford it.

how is setting off the fire alarm ‘living life to the full’? What about the people in genuine fires who could be dieing because of your joke? They won’t be living life at all if they’re burnt to death.

Grow up.

Does a fire alarm have the ability to permanently damage hearing?

Posted by admin on June 3rd, 2010 and filed under fire alarm | 2 Comments »

The fire alarm was placed where it wasnt supposed to be before we lived here and it goes off every single day because it was placed improperly. Im wondering if our hearing will be affected by it as it hurts my ears terribly every day.

If it is placed right up against your ears, but otherwise, no, ear and head pain from loud noise is normal. Get the issue worked out one way or another (destroy it).

Wheelock fire alarm test

Testing my Wheelock 34T-24+WS-24 fire alarm horn/strobe using 2 12 volt lead acid batteries. This horn looks exactly like the 7002T series but the horn and strobe are wired separately giving the horn an uninterrupted sound instead of the infamous skipping the 7002T is known for. NOTE: these are audio and visual devices using flashing strobes. Even though the camera didn’t pick up the strobe flashing very well if you have light sensitive Epilepsy, or if you have any ill effect from viewing flashing strobes please don’t watch this video. I will not be responsible for any ill effects you may experience. with that said enjoy.

Fire Alarm Testing – Old IBM/Simplex System

Posted by admin on May 24th, 2010 and filed under fire alarm | 25 Comments »

This is a pull station test at the same school as shown with the “Old School” IBM fire panel. You will see when the pull station is opened the alarm rings four rounds and then stops. The 8″ tan bell is the one you hear ringing.

The bell to the left still works but does not sound with the building alarm. To ring it, you have to yank down on the pole with force and it will “ding” once (and very loud.) There is a plunger mounted right above the bell that is spring loaded; when yanking on the pole, it releases the spring’s tension which then makes the plunger smack the bell. The pole goes down through the floor which connects to a bell in the same location in the hall underneath it and will make that bell “ding” as well. This was how they did it in the early days when they were starting to input “fire gongs” in school buildings.

Ignore the screaming little kid; he was due for an beating.

What is exactly the consequence for pulling the fire alarm at a school?

Posted by admin on May 22nd, 2010 and filed under fire alarm | 8 Comments »

I live in Illinois and attend as a freshman in East High school

In this school year alone, mostly in second quarter, the fire alarm was pulled 8 times by various students, all of which were pranks.

I knew a friend who was one of those students, Aaron Hartman, he pulled of of the first two (Both in first quarter, he got expelled 4 weeks later.

at University, some students used to smash fire safety signs, and a letter came around telling us any offender would be out of University.

Guess what, after getting the grades to get in, and effectively getting one-shot at a government grant, the offender was caught re-offending and was kicked out. (the offender was from a deprived area and had no private funds, unemployment was very high at the time).
