Why does my fire alarm keep faulting every three days?

Simplex Grinnell fire alarm keeps setting off the alarm in the box, a really annoying beeeeeeeep! Not main alarm. When I push reset the fire department shows up. I warn them in advance but they still keep coming. I replaced the dead backup battery but it didn’t help.
Never mind, someone had unplugged the fax and phone line to it that was in another office., traced every wire and found it. Thank you.

Contact the manufacture sooner than later. There is a limit to the number of times the fd will show up and they may even start to fine you.

How to keep an apartment fire alarm from going off when taking a shower?

I know I’m hot, but not quite hot enough to set off a fire alarm. It seems that the steam from the shower gets out of the bathroom and causes the alarms to go off.
What can I do to fix this, aside from moving the alarms?

Find a paper cup the right size and slip if over the entire alarm head before you shower. Alarm sensors can’t tell the difference between steam and smoke.

Last year, in middle school a kid pulled the fire alarm. he got suspended and he went to court or something. Because he did that, could he be a cop in the future?

That act would not stop him from being a cop.

I am a leaseholder of a flat in a victorian converted house and the freeholder is asking us all to pay for the costs of having a new fire alarm system fitted.Who is responsible for the payment,the leaseholders or the freeholder?

As other posters have said, It will depend on the terms of your lease. Recently I installed a fire alarm and emergency lighting system in a Victorian property which had been converted some years ago into to six flats. The freeholder had been ordered to do so by the local council. Most of the cost was paid out of the "building maintenance fund", which each leaseholder pays into, and the remainder was shared equally by each leaseholder. So in this case it was the leaseholders and not the freeholder who bore the cost.

I can’t cook without fear that the alarm will go off and the fire department will show up. I can’t remove the smoke detector. It is not battery operated and it is hardwired into the emergency alarm system. Can I cover it up with something?

You can cover the detector temporarily with a plastic shower cap. Just remember to remove the cap once you are finished cooking or you will defeat the purpose of the fire alarm system.

In school someone pulled a fire alarm, so I’m wodnerign how they’ll figure out who it was.

depends on the school. Since it is more than a school offense, but illegal they can bring cops to do prints, review camera footage, find out what students were out of class at the time and interrogate them or some fire alarms spray the hand with an ink to stain the person who pulled it.

I took this physics exam in university (midterm) and during the testing period (near the last half an hour) the fire alarm rings. The invigilator did not say anything so all the students kept writing the test and ignored the alarm. I was confused and the fire alarm did not help me panicking abit and ended up wasting 30 minutes. I think the chances of me getting a low mark is high. Can I petition this with the teacher for a rewrite or not possible?

Next time your friend pulls a fake fire alarm, make sure that you understand the testing protocol.

It seems like you should have handed your paper into the instructor with a note, and left the building.

Most professors at Universities in the United States would have given you a make up exam under these circumstances. Now, I think you are stuck.

None-the-less, I’d explain this situation to your teacher and ask for a secondary exam, to be considered for final grading.

What would you do if you were breaking the glass on the fire alarm and the glass was breaking in small parts?

If you were kicking or using the hammer to break the glass on a fire alarm in a fire what would you do if the glass was breaking in small parts? With a hammer would you hit the glass and wait for some glass to break before doing more? Or with kicking would you kick it once wait until some glass falls and then kick the rest to pull the handle? How would you clear the class so you can pull the handle without hurting yourself?

Would it be normal to kick the glass and use the hammer to break it?

if you wrap your hand in a leather jacket, or a towel, you should be able to break the glass with the hammer, and clear the other glass out with your hand, safely covered in several layers of leather or cloth

Why would a fire alarm have more than one direction to operate it?

I saw a fire alarm at a hotel and it had you lift open the cover break the glass and pull the handle down? How long would it take to do all these directions in a fire? How would one remember all of those steps to activate the alarm? Does one need to say the directions out loud to help to do it quickly?

Why are you soo obsessed with pull stations – this is probably your 100th question about how to work them! Why dont you go on ebay and buy some to find out for yourself!

If there was a fire and you were trying to pull the fire alarm and a kid tried to prevent you from pulling the fire alarm because he wants to pull it in a fire what would you do or say?

Pull it faster and ignore him. He’s just a damn kid.
